Residents were awoken to explosions sounds in the middle of the night on Thursday 14 September, where they would see a car on fire in the middle of suburban Pakenham.
At 11.26pm Pakenham FRV crews were alerted to a car fire at Woodbine Street just east of Pakenham Main Street.
Firefighters quickly attended the scene and put out the fire, it’s reported that there were no individuals inside the car, and no-one was injured, FRV crews left the scene less than an hour later at 12.15am.
Police confirmed the fire is being investigated and treated as suspicious.
Residents took to Pakenham Noticeboard to report the incident, with some reporting they heard multiple explosions during the time of the fire.
A video of the fire posted online shows the vehicle without number plates, some residents claim the vehicle had been sitting in that spot for a considerable amount of time.
One nearby resident recounted the incident from their perspective.
“I heard two explosions and went out on my balcony to see what was happening and I could see the smoke and hear the horn,” they said.
“I heard that the car had been there a while and the plates stolen recently and then set on fire.
“There is also another car on that street that has a yellow sign on it saying that it is either abandoned or unregistered”
