Shannon shines brightest at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

There was rain and dampness around during the week but the weather was perfect for golf on the weekend with a field of 114 lining up on Saturday for a game of single stableford.

Best in for the day with the A Grade win was Dean Shannon with a healthy round of 40 points, defeating John Blair by two points.

Scott Hathaway, a new name to the club, was next best with the C Grade winning score of 39 points, three points clear of Stevie Dolan in second place.

Best in for the B Grade event was Robert Murphy with a handicap round of 36 points.

A final score of 32 points or better, back to a count back, was required to finish in the money.

Just seven players for the day were able to play to, or better their handicap.

Another good field of 85 players turned out on Thursday under cold damp conditions.

Don Towan came up trumps with a C Grade winning score of 39 points, on a count back from Tony Penney.

Graeme Pretty, a golfer in good nick, was the A Grade winner with a round of 38 points, one point to the better of Chris Naughton.

Terry McLaughlin broke a run of outs to get the B Grade win with a countback-winning score of 37 points over John Scale.

A final score of 33 points back to a count back was required to finish in the money.

A total of 13 players were able to play to their handicaps or better.

Tony Mafodda scored two birdies on the par threes.

On Monday a field of 66 turned out with Steve O’Loughlin getting the B Grade win with a final score of 38 points.

Darren Grayson did best for the A Graders with a nice round of 38 points by a count back from Steve Humphrys.

The West Gippsland Veteran’s Tour recommences next Monday at Moe, so those that wish to attend entries are required no later than Thursday September 7.

If you haven’t ordered a cart, it is now too late to do so.

The State Championships are to be played at Warragul on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 October.

If any of our Garfield members are planning to play, I would suggest that you try to book a cart early if that is required.

Info sheets are on display in the men’s washroom.

Please don’t remove them, kindly ask the club to print one off.

Speaking of veterans, Garfield is hosting its annual Over 55 Three-Person Ambrose Event on 18 September at a cost of $120 per team which includes a two-course lunch.

Entry forms are at the club.

Next Saturday is the September Monthly Medal.
