GARFIELD GOLF

There were a few showers about this week but nothing too serious to affect ones golfing round at Garfield Golf Club.

This week’s best performance was an easy find with Heath Barclay, on the back of some recent good form, shooting the lights out on Thursday winning the A Grade event with a fantastic round of 43 points.

Playing off his mark of 10 meant he played to a figure of just three…well played Heath.

Second to Barclay, way back on 37 points, was veteran Trevor Burnie, whilst the best in for the B Grade event was Warren Arnott also with a round of 37 points – one point to the better of Gary Kelly and Russell Kerr.

Down the line prizes were awarded to all those that scored 34 points or better back to a count back.

Leo De Jager, yet another good player in form, had two nearest the pins on the 4th and 14th holes.

It proved a difficult day for birdies with the aforementioned Barclay scoring the only one for the day on the par threes by doing so on the ninth hole.

On Saturday a field of 103 punters turned out for a game of single stableford with Andrew Went lodging the best score with an A Grade winning round of 40 points – playing off his mark of just nine – defeating Ian Hopper by one point.

Robert Norris won the B Grade event by a count back decision from Matt Hogan with a score of 39 points.

Gary Kelly, having a great week, backed up his Thursday effort by winning the C Grade event with a score of 37 points, three clear from Garry Tivendale and Daniel Blake.

A final score of 33 points or better was the number for a down the line result.

Steve Kohut Jnr scored the two nearest the pins on the fourth and eighth holes.

Nick Gray tuned up for his Captains Trophy match play event next Saturday with a fine round of 38 points playing off his mark of just eight.

The Captains Trophy quarter finals, next Saturday, are to be played where I expect Gray, Clint Williams and Peter McNeish, all low markers, to fight out the champions’ title.

Gray and McNeish are due to meet in the semis if they win next week.

Rob Nobelius won Monday’s comp with an A Grade winning score of 39 points the best result for the day from the field of 57 patrons.

After its annual winter hibernation the Gippsland Seniors Tour recommences on 11 September at Moe via a 9am shot gun start.

Any members that wish to book a cart please book early directly with Moe as there are a limited number of carts.

Names to Ron Seamer or John Scale by 4 September.

Next Saturday is a game of single stableford.
