GARFIELD GOLF
It was a great week of winter weather at Garfield Golf Club with the daily temperatures some five degrees warmer through the week – up from the normal average of just 12.
Combine this with plenty of drying strong winds and the course is the driest it’s ever been for this time of the year.
We go back to last Sunday for this week’s highlight with Steely Mateariki winning the day with a very nice 43 points, which meant he played to a mark of just three, some seven shots better than his allotted mark of 10.
For the ladies, Bernie Clark made it five wins in as many weeks with a Tuesday score of 34 stableford points.
A field of 113 ventured out for play on Saturday for a stroke round; the second round of the time-honored Cox Cup.
Harrison Moore had a day out with the day’s best round with the C Grade winning-score of nett 63. Russell Maxwell won the A Grade event with a round of nett 66 whilst Phillip Barling, a Pakenham import, won the B Grade event with a score of nett 65.
A final score of nett 70 or better was the number for a ball down the line.
In another highlight, Peter Black scored two birdies for his round.
Chris Davies found some much-needed form with an A Grade runner up score of nett 67.
There was another excellent turnout on Thursday with a field of 87 presenting for play.
Tim Sallai was the best in for the A Graders with a round of 34 points, winning by a count back decision from Kevin Whitmore.
David Saint got the B Grade victory with a score of 38 points whilst Harrison Moore had the day’s best round, securing a C Grade victory with a score of 39 points.
This backed up his win in Saturday’s C Grade event.
A final score of 33 points, back to a count back, was required for a ball down the line.
The other highlight of the day was an eagle two scored by Paul Kaye on the par four seventh, which is rarely achieved.
Tim Moore won Monday’s stableford competition with a score of 40 points.
Next Saturday is a 4-Ball Aggregate stableford event.
