Cardinia Storm’s second consecutive loss has put them back to fifth position in a tight competition.
The Storm went down 3-1 to Waverley on Sunday as the hosts were forced to defend a series of short corners which ultimately proved too much.
Fill-in goal-keeper Kirsten Finger had her work cut out for her as two of the goals came from that source, but the Storm’s ability to remain in the contest for so long against the tide underlined their work ethic.
Defenders Randeep Kaur, Vanessa Dillon, Jane Gipp and Lauren Walsh were the key contributors in staving off the attacks.
Bec Gregory was the goal scorer, rewarded for her desire to run both ways while Teejay Peterson and Bridie Dillon were others willing to do the hard stuff when Waverley won the territory battle.
Cardinia will be favoured to get back on the winners list this week against bottom-placed MCC Hockey Section.
