RESIDENTS can now save even more water thanks to the Cardinia Shire Council’s showerhead exchange program.
Those who live in the shire just need to bring their old showerhead and a recent water bill to the council offices in Henty Way, Pakenham, to collect a new water-efficient showerhead free of charge. Cardinia Shire residents have exchanged 2000 showerheads since the council joined the scheme last year.
Council waste education officer Tammy Sherar said water-efficient showerheads were one of the cheapest and most effective ways to reduce household water use.
“They can save you up to $60 a year in water and energy bills,’’ she said.
“Water efficient showerheads also reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as less hot water means less energy required to heat it.”
The first 100 households to take up the offer will also receive a free, four-minute water timer.
Cutting your shower from seven to four minutes can save about 12,000 litres per person per year – equivalent to 40,000 glasses of water.
