Pakenham set to celebrate nation’s big day

RESIDENTS will gather at the Cardinia Cultural Centre this Saturday to celebrate Australia Day.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Bill Ronald, also chairman of the Australia Day Committee, will formally welcome the crowd before announcing the winners of this year’s Cardinia Shire Australia Day Awards.
A total of 25 citizens and seven community events have been nominated for the awards, with 12 nominations received for the Citizen of the Year category.
Mayor Cr Bill Ronald said choosing a winner would prove tough as all of the nominees were outstanding members of the community.
“We are very fortunate to have so many community-minded people doing so much to help make Cardinia Shire such a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family,” he said.
“This is a chance to pay tribute to some of our very best citizens and events and I hope the community will join us on Australia Day to acknowledge and honour their contribution.”
The celebrations kick of at 11am and feature fun activities for all ages including face painting, Cardinia Civic Concert Band performances as well as a free barbecue.
