CARDINIA WATERS BOWLS

Midweek Report

Cardinia Waters midweek side one finished their season off with a barnstorming finish to defeat Noble Park by just three shots last Tuesday.

Watched by a sizeable crowd the village side took control in the morning session only to face a late rush from Noble Park after lunch.

At the lunch bell Cardinia Waters held an eight-shot lead.

The ‘Parkers’ came right back in the afternoon, but after gaining the lead with a handful of ends to play saw Cardinia Waters fight things out for a three-shot win.

Despite this win, Cardinia Waters missed out on a finals berth by just two points.

However, their players were all smiles and enjoyed some hospitality in the club rooms after the game.

They were joined by the second side who had a bye.

Best winning rink by just four shots was Bryan Stevens, John Moore, Del Dance and Ian Kennedy.

Also winning by the barest margin of one shot was John Van Vugt, Ray Naylor, Tom Gogan and Jill Naylor.

Losing on the third rink proved costly for Cardinia Waters, because due their larger percentage and a greater shot difference, a win and the two points gained would have propelled them into third place, and assured them of a finals game.

Cardinia Waters will be left to rue the season that could have been.

Of the fourteen rounds they won six, and of the ones they lost, five games were by under five shots.

They can expect to remain in division three next season, and with Narre Warren and Dandenong Club expected to be promoted, side one appears to be quite competitive.

Because of the bye, side two’s season ended last week. Their sixth place should be enough to keep them in division five next season.
