Mel in the hot seat

An Officer mother of three is planning on taking her family on a “massive” American holiday after walking away with $20,000 from Channel 9’s Millionaire Hot Seat.

Mel Ludlow has always loved trivia and game shows.

“I’m always interested in learning as much as I can,” she said.

“I think my love of trivia stems from my childhood. As a child, my parents had Trivial Pursuit which I enjoyed playing.

“I have a really good memory of certain facts which I can pull out of my brain.”

Mel previously appeared on The Chase in 2019 and Million Dollar Minute in 2013, but this is the first time she’s won.

“Winning Millionaire Hot Seat was a surreal, out of body experience,” Mel said.

Filmed in November last year, Mel said she had been excited for her friends and family to watch her episode, which aired Tuesday 7 February.

She said for her last few questions before she won, she didn’t know the answers.

“I followed my gut feeling,” she said.

The Ludlow family, which consists of husband Michael and sons Riley 14, Tristan 11 and Harrison 9, have been through a lot in recent years.

When Harrison was six, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (ALL).

He spent two and a half years undergoing monthly chemotherapy treatment, which wrapped up in August last year.

“He’s back to living a normal life, if you see him you wouldn’t know what he went through,” Mel said.

With her prize money, Mel and Michael are hoping to take the boys to America, incorporating the boy’s dream holiday activities like watching an NBA game, visiting Disneyland and going on a cruise.
