The sun was blazing hot and so was the scoring at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday as some in-form golfers made the most of the rapidly-improving conditions.

The A Grade scoring was tight at the top, with Andrew Heagney edging out Peter Reilly via countback, but it was in B Grade where the fireworks really went off.

John Piggott (27) played a magnificent round of golf to finish +8, three shots clear of his nearest pursuer in Maddison Selleck (29) on +5.

Heagney, playing off his handicap of 18, finished with a score of +2 to get the A Grade win over Reilly, playing off nine.

A score of square-with-the-card or better was required to win a ball down the line, with Simon Fay +4, Wayne Lamers +3, David Bell +3, Blaze Bester +3, Ciara Davies +2, Dean Jones +2, Michael Banger +1, Patrick Farrell +1, Anthony Franzi +1, David Leek Square and Bryan Clydesdale Square the players that achieved that milestone.

Nearest the pin went to Graeme Durran (1.18m) on the second.

A fantastic week of golf began in earnest on Monday, when hard-hitting right-hander John Hutcheon (14) scored 39 points to win the stableford competition.

The experienced Stephen Northcott (20) bettered his handicap, scoring 37 points to win the runners-up prize.

Lyriq Bester 37, Harry Bolotin 37, David McMahon 36, Ron Seamer 35, Brian Webster 35, Blaze Bester 35, Ross Maclean 35 and Heath Barclay 34 played well enough to secure a ball down the line, while nearest the pins went to 2nd hole: William Carmichael (4.2 m) and 16th hole: John Curtin (1.5m).

January’s Mid-Week Monthly Medal went up for grabs on Wednesday and it was Heath Barclay (9) who continued his impressive run of recent form to win the coveted prize with a great score of 40 points.

Barclay finished just one-point clear of runner-up Harry Bolotin (13) in A Grade, while Chris Dalton (22) signed off on 38 points for a three-shot victory over Trevor McQualter (31) in B Grade.

Down the lines went to Phillip Mott, Noel Bonne, John Curtin and visitor Andrew Liebe, all on 37 points, with Graeme Brennan, Nick Gray, John Kingman and David McMahon securing the same prize with a score of 34 points.

The SuperComp Front-9 winner was Ron Seamer with 20 points, while nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Harry Bolotin (0.67m) and 16th Hole: Roger Parker (0.82m).

The ladies stepped out for a stableford event on Thursday and it was the incredibly-consistent Leah Barker (25) who once again shined brightest, scoring 35 points for a four-shot victory over Marg Andrews.

Barker also secured nearest the pin on the second (0.60m), with Shirley McGrath (1.70m) taking the title on the 16th.

Sue Nelson won the nine-hole competition, with Bev Clymo winning a ball down the line.

And after a scorching Saturday, perfect conditions greeted the Sunday players this week with Dean Jones (14) making the most of the cooling temperature to score 39 points for a four-shot win over Glenn Rees and Andrew Heagney…who both won balls down the line.
