Three… facts about Qatar

1. Controversy

Qatar has become the first Arab country to host a FIFA World Cup. The 2022 FIFA World Cup was awarded to Qatar in controversial fashion in 2010, as Australian officials were convinced the World Cup would be played down under.

2. Population

Roughly 99 per cent of the Qatari population live in the capital city, Doha. This is believed to be due to the landscape of the city being situated in a desert that would be uninhabitable.

3. LGBT

Qatar follows an interpretation of Sharia law which bans homosexuality. Members of the LGBT community face prison sentences if they publicly express their sexuality.
