MID-WEEK PENNANT
Both the village sides played against Narre Warren last week with one team at home and one away.
The result was one win and one loss.
Cardinia Waters side 1 played Narre Warren 2 at home, and lost the game one rink up, and two down.
The winning rink was the ever reliable John Van Vugt playing with Ray Naylor, Tom Gogan and Jill Naylor.
They kept their noses in front for almost the whole game, and won with a score of 24-20.
The ones remain in fourth place on the ladder, although the three sides above them are all undefeated.
Next week they are away against Chelsea, who is yet to break the ice.
Side two travelled to Narre Warren, and in the shadows of Fountain Gate managed a fine win against the Panthers’ fourth side.
Overall the margin was two rinks up, and 14 shots up.
In good form was Len Judge’s rink who won 28/17.
Len was ably assisted by Dennis Patmore, Michele Bondfield and Ian Kennedy.
The other rink who won 24-18 was skipped by Mick Knight, with John Carr and Peter and Therese Mitchell.
Side two hold down second position on the ladder, and next week play at home to Churchill Waverley Golf Club.
SATURDAY PENNANT
A pleasant day with no rain, and little wind was just what Cardinia Waters needed for their game against Noble Park last Saturday.
The synthetic green at Cardinia Waters was a clear advantage for the home side as Noble Park play on the slower turf at their home.
Another advantage for Cardinia Waters was their opposition being short one player all day.
So the end result of 112-54 was always on the cards, and winning all 18 points on offer was just what Cardinia Waters needed.
The charge to see who would win king rink was always on, and it was no surprise to see John Van Vugt’s rink win the title.
They were the group who benefitted by Noble Park being one player short.
John played with Micki Horton, Ian Kennedy and Kaye Hale and at the end had a magnificent 33-11 victory.
Always in front they charged home later in the afternoon, topping off the game with a five on the last end.
Steve Hale’s rink was pleased with their 27/12 win too.
Given the scores were equal at afternoon tea the final result was most pleasing.
Steve played with Mick Knight, Robert Mitchell and Graeme Taylor.
A steady game from Bryan Stevens, Marion Stevens, John Moore and Jenny Cole ended in a satisfactory 27-14 win.
They had their collective noses in front by seven shots at afternoon tea, and steadily drew away in the final half of the game.
Not to be outdone was a good result from Bill Hite’s rink who won 25/17.
Bill played with Tom Gogan, Del Dance and Terry Nye.
Their opponents played the game with much spirit, and took it right up to the village quartet.
However it was the steady as you go play that helped the Village four win the day.
All in all a good win for Cardinia Waters after their drawn game last week.
They are in third position on the ladder, and next week play an away game at Berwick.
Just how they handle the turf green will be a pointer as to their success this season. Pakenham and Berwick are the top two teams, currently both undefeated.
