The community has rallied behind a Lang Lang dancer following a devastating diagnosis.
Fourteen-year-old Ebony Miller was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma on Wednesday 12 October after a CT scan revealed a mass on her sternum.
Ebony, who is in Year 8 at Kooweerup Secondary College, had been feeling more fatigued than usual when she went in for a blood test.
The abnormal results led to a series of scans and test which revealed the shocking diagnosis.
Ebony’s mum Krystle said it had been a whirlwind few weeks for the family, who had made the moved to Townsville in August.
“Ebony stayed behind with my husband’s parents in Nyora so she could finish off the year – her competitive dance team and the school year,” Krystle said.
It was only two weeks after of the rest of the family had moved to Townsville that Ebony fell sick.
The family immediately made the emergency trip back to Melbourne to be with her.
The financial strain of the move and then coming back to Melbourne, along with impending treatment, led Krystle to start a GoFundMe.
It’s already garnered almost $4000 in only a few days.
“I wasn’t going to set one up,” she said.
“No one wants to ask for money. But we already had to borrow money to come back down to Melbourne.
“At some point we have to go back to Townsville and its also the little luxuries to keep her comfortable – she’s going to lose her hair so we might get a wig.”
Krystle said the support received so far was overwhelming.
“We’ve had a lot more support than I thought, especially so quickly,” she said.
Ebony, who dances at Starstruck Dance and Cheer Academy in Pakenham, will get to perform in the last competition next weekend, before starting starting chemotherapy.
