Classy Crowle takes home top prize

DEEP CREEK GOLF

The sun finally made an appearance at Deep Creek Golf Club over the last week with patient golfers enjoying the chance to shake off the winter cobwebs.

A good-sized field turned out for Saturday’s stableford competition.

Colin Crowle (15) is one golfer who thoroughly enjoyed the sun on his back, shooting a great score of 39 points to take home the day’s main prize.

Geoff Percival (13) was also in good form, scoring 37 points to claim the runners-up prize on a countback from Harry Elyasie.

Down the lines went to David Bell and Leon Mateariki with 35 points, John Wilson, Michael Banger and Mark Hatton 34, Robin McCrae 33 and Graeme Durran with 32 points.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Marcus Cameron (2.3m) and 16th Hole: Glenn Rees (0.66m).

A strong field also took to the course for Wednesday’s stableford event with Levi Sua (11) handling conditions best to score 38 points to win on a countback from Stewart MacDonald (25).

Down the lines went to Heath Barclay and Ron Parsons with 36 points, John Wilson and Murray O’Dwyer 35 and to Harry Elyasie and Rob Nobelius with 34 points.

The SuperComp Front 9 winner was Nobelius with 19 points while that same golfer claimed nearest the pin honours on the 16th with a well-struck iron to 1.80 metres.

Bodhi Leguier (39) thumped the opposition on Thursday with a match-winning score of 40 points, while Heath Barclay (9) scored 36 points to win Sunday’s event by two shots over Brett Nowlan.

All competitions this week will be decided by stableford format.
