Women kick it in Canberra

THE Casey presence was prevalent at last week’s AFL Women’s National Championships in Canberra, with the region’s nine representatives featuring strongly.
The locals who competed for the Victorian under-19 squad were Hallam’s Chantelle Hawkins, Chloe Peers, Kristy Borg and Alicia Heins (emergency), Pearcedale-Baxter’s Courtney Clarkson and Mariah Marshall, Berwick’s Corrine Cullis, Narre Warren’s Kara Donnellan and Narre South Lion Michelle Donnelly.
The stand-outs were Donnellan and Marshall, who each featured in the best players twice, while Cullis was named among the best on one occasion.
Donnelly kicked two goals and Clarkson snagged one as the Victorian under-19 team finished third overall, with three wins from its five matches.
