Trendy art show set to open

An exhibition of contemporary art highlighting the latest trends is opening soon at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.

The Trending Art exhibition, run by not-for-profit organisation the Cardinia Art Society, gives artists an opportunity to display their most creative works.

President Jillian Ronald said the society was holding the show to encourage and support creativity throughout Cardinia Shire.

“The committee believes that art brings people together and this art show displaying 270 artworks will showcase the diversity of artists in the Cardinia Shire and surrounding districts,” she said.

“The art will inspire you and with many of the artworks for sale, it could solve the problem of your boring blank wall!”

The gift shop is open for the duration of the show, selling artist’s unique items and merchandise, and is a great place for visitors to do some early Christmas shopping for a unique gift, Ms Ronald said.

Visitors can also watch artists at work during demonstrations on the weekends.

Prizes will be award to the best resin, flow, digital, mixed media, abstract, sculpture and textile.

Artworks that have a cultural or environmental message are included and young artists 15 and under will compete for five certificates of excellence.

Both judges are local, with Andrea Hopgood owner of Paperworks Gallery in Berwick while Desiree Van de Beek-Harker hails from Cranbourne.

They will also have a selection of their artworks on display.

The Trending Art Show runs from 23 September to 2 October and is open daily from 10am to 4pm at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.

“The show is open for 10 days which includes the grand final weekend and school holidays. It’s an opportunity to escape the footy and is a great value holiday activity,” Ms Ronald said.

Entry is free, but a gold coin donation would be appreciated.
