LOCALS have the opportunity to throw out household items such as old furniture and white goods with the Cardinia Shire Council re-introducing its bi-annual hard and green waste collection service.
The kerbside service will replace the current tip voucher system.
Pakenham collections will take place on Monday 17 December, giving residents the chance to have a pre-Christmas clean-out.
Residents can leave up to two cubic metres of hard and green waste on their nature strip for collection for one week before the advertised collection date for their area.
To help with recycling, council officials have asked residents to place green waste, mattresses, scrap metal and remaining hard waste in separate piles.
Tree branches less than 1.5 metres long and 15 centimetres in diameter tied in bundles will also be collected.
Items that won’t be collected include batteries, asbestos sheets, chemicals, large car parts, tyres, gas bottles, car springs and any other dangerous materials.
The collection is being carried out for the council by WM Waste Management Services which can be contacted on 9721 1915.
