Pakenham SES volunteers have responded to 19 calls for assistant overnight of Tuesday 2 August, following a severe weather warning for southern Australia.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather update on Tuesday, to warn of widespread damaging winds across the district.
In a statement released by VICSES Wednesday 3 August, a spokesperson revealed the service had received 216 calls for assistance in the previous 24 hours to 6am, mainly relating to fallen trees.
The busiest volunteer units included Emerald (24 calls), Pakenham (19) and Upper Yarra (15).
Pakenham SES Unit spokesperson Shayne Honey said the volunteers were kept quite busy overnight, with calls coming in from 1am to 9am.
“Most requests were for trees over roads causing a traffic hazard or trees over driveways,” he said.
“We had two fences come down and one trampoline fly into a neighbours yard.
“Luckily no major damage to any properties.”
Power outages are still ongoing in Beaconsfield Upper, Guys Hill, Harkaway and Dewhurst, affecting at least 800 customers, according to Ausnet at 9.20am Wednesday 3 August.
1125 customers in Gembrook are without power as well.
Ausnet crews are assessing the damage and will repair as quickly and safely as possible.
