A first of its kind program on microbusiness is being offered to multicultural women in Pakenham and surrounds, provided by Living and Learning Pakenham (LLP).
Starting in early August, ’Start, Run and Succeed in Business’ provides an opportunity for participants to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed as business owners and entrepreneurs.
The course has been co-designed by Abiola Abjetombi and LLP for women from culturally diverse and marginalised backgrounds and will explore microbusinesses in Australia, developing a business plan, understanding the legal requirements of running a business along with the mentor support to succeed.
Abiola said six people had already signed up for the program.
“This course is looking to understand microbusiness in Australia and how they can market their business and align it with Australian context,” she said.
“Participants will learn how to turn an idea into a successful business and how to work with other local businesses.
“It’s a hands on program – not only are they in class but they’ll also have field participation to ensure they have the skills and support they need to establish themselves and thrive.”
Abiola will facilitate the 10-week program and is passionate about supporting women to increase their economic participation.
“I’m very excited. I’m also from a migrant background myself so I’m very passionate about enabling other women to have opportunities,” she said.
A ceremony will be held at the end of the program which will have participants market their local businesses to the community.
An LLP spokesperson said Abiola would tailor the program to suit each participant’s level of experience.
“Abiola’s previous work spans humanitarian, business, accounting, financial services and social entrepreneurship, not-for-profit and public service, and LLP are excited to have her on board for this program,” an LLP spokesperson said.
This is a free, pre-accredited program and can provide further study opportunities.
Start, Run & Succeed in Business will begin on Wednesday 3 August from 9.30am to 2.30pm at Living Learning Pakenham.
