Phillip Island is getting $42 million towards a new, modern and accessible aquatic and recreation facility if the Liberals and Nationals Government is elected in November.
Phillip Island residents will no longer need to travel the long distance to Wonthaggi to access indoor aquatic facilities, with one right on their doorstep.
Considering the needs of the community, residents will see the inclusion of an indoor 25 metre pool, a warm water swimming lesson and leisure pool, a toddlers and kids play pool, waterslides, a gymnasium with group fitness, wellness facilities, family friendly change rooms and a café.
The new aquatic centre project will be delivered in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council.
Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said he looked forward to delivering the local commitment.
“We are listening to our local communities and only a Liberals and Nationals Government I lead will deliver for them,” Mr Guy said.
Bass Liberal Candidate Aaron Brown said he was thrilled to see Phillip Island get the infrastructure it deserves.
“This new facility will mean jobs, both during construction and ongoing, and will deliver year-round amenities for local residents,” he said.
“Parents will no longer have to travel 40 minutes to Wonthaggi to get their kids to swimming lessons and that’s what I call a win.”
Nationals Bass candidate Brett Tessari agreed this was a fantastic announcement for the people of Phillip Island.
“Locals have been campaigning for an aquatics facility like this for over 25 years so I’m thrilled to be here today for The Nationals delivering it,” Mr Tessari said.
“I am really proud of the work done with the community and the advocacy we’ve done over the last six years.
“This new infrastructure is a fair share for Bass Coast that will benefit our community for generations to come.”
