CONCERNS over leaking storage tanks at a service station in Fountain Gate have been dismissed.
The Coles Express Fountain Gate service station was shut and fenced off in late May as excavators started to rip up several underground tanks.
However, officials have confirmed the work being done is part of the company’s tank replacement program, which occurs about every 10 years.
Workers at the corner of Princes Highway and Lauderdale Road are also replacing the canopy over the forecourt area, a Coles Express spokeswoman said.
She said the old tanks would be replaced with larger tanks that would store more fuel.
Environment Protection Authority (EPA) spokeswoman Sarah Campbell said the project was a pro-active measure being undertaken by Coles Express.
She said EPA staff had inspected the site and were satisfied with the works being undertaken.
