Nick shows Gray-T form at the Creek

DEEP CREEK GOLF CLUB

Nick Gray (5) stood head and shoulders above the pack at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday being the only golfer to better his handicap in a Par event.

Playing off his low mark, Gray fired a great round of 75 off the stick to finish +2 for a two-shot win in A Grade over Matt Lloyd (7), who finished square with the card.

Brian ‘Worm’ Webster (17) also finished square, winning B Grade by two shots from runner-up Michael Anlanger (18) who ended the day two down.

Maddison Selleck (39) also ended the round with a score of even, winning C Grade from runner up Duncan Campbell (22) on -3.

Down the lines went to Peter Reilly -1, Marcus Cameron and Steve Morgan -2, David Bell -3, and to Simon Fay, Barry Williams, Les Jones, Suzanne Van Strien, David Mair, Phil Barling and Grant Wilson on -4.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Peter Reilly (4.5m) and 16th Hole: Duncan Campbell (6.1m).

The golfing week started at Deep Creek on Monday with a fun and vibrant teams’ event, with the four-player ambrose competition producing some great scores.

The winning team with a score of 58.875 was the experienced combination of Noel Boyd, Mick Boyd, Roger Parker and Les Jones, who won by less than a shot from runners up David McMahon, William Carmichael, Stewart MacDonald and Levi Sua who scored 59.625.

Down the lines with a score of 61.875 went to Rex Ryan, Ron Seamer, Grant Wilson and Craig Wilson.

The always popular nearest the pins on ambrose day went to 2nd Hole: Bobby Edwards (1.6m) and 16th Hole: Steven Smith (2.5m).

An amazing back nine of 24 points propelled John Curtin (18) to a score of 42 points and an A Grade victory in Wednesday’s stableford event.

Runner up in A Grade was Levi Sua (11) with 38 points, while David Bell (24) won B Grade with 39 points on a countback from Gordon Edwards (22).

Down the lines went to Glenn Charles and Harry Elyasie with 38 points, Tony Penney, Harry Bolotin, John Kingman and Roger Parker 37, and to Ross Stewart and Steven Smith with 36 points.

Not surprisingly, the Supercomp Back 9 winner was John Curtin (18) with 24 points and nearest the pin went to Harry Elyasie (2.91m) on the 16th.

The ladies braved cold and showery conditions on Thursday to play some highly-competitive golf with Anne Donovan (37) playing a great round considering the conditions – scoring 35 points to win the main prize on the day.

Down the lines went to a group of players who scored 30 or more points. That group included Nola Kerslake with 31 points and Leah Barker and Kay Jones with 30.

Nearest the pin went to Liz Garvey (3.57m) on the 16th.

And Simon Fay (26) rounded out the golfing week with a brilliant performance in Sunday’s stableford competition.

Fay (26) dominated the field, scoring 39 points for a six-shot win over Nick Gray, Heath Barclay and Kelsey Davies on 33 points.

Other down the lines went to Ray Hewitt with 31 points and Brett Nowlan with 30.
