Pakenham filmmaker Glenn Triggs is celebrating the successful premiere of his film ’Dreams of Paper and Ink’ at Melbourne’s Lido Cinema over the weekend.
The film is a movie entirely void of dialogue which follows an elderly novelist who revisits the crossroads of his first love through imagination and a typewriter.
Inspired by Glenn’s own life, the film was shot in Pakenham, Phillip Island and the CBD over just 12 days.
Mr Triggs said the premiere was a great success.
“It went really well, the location was great and Lido Cinemas did a great job hosting us,“ he said.
“The cinema was packed – we had a lot of family and friends and some members of the public.
“The film also screened at a cinema in NSW and I received a very nice message from a stranger who saw it.“
Mr Triggs held a Q and A after the screening of the film alongside actors Neal Bosanquet and Will Servinis.
“People were curious how difficult it was to make a film with no dialogue and about the rights and copyright for all the music,“ Mr Triggs said.
“It’s just a long process of listening to many songs to find the right one and then contacting the artist to get permission to use it in the film.“
Film critic and writer for The Curb Nadine Whitney was in the audience at the premiere and gave the film a rave review.
Mr Triggs said he was surprised by the positive reception.
“It ran very smoothly and it was just a great night, everyone enjoyed the film a lot more than I thought they would and got something out of it,“ he said.
“I think they can relate to it a lot.“
