Heavy overnight rains didn’t deter players from lining up in droves at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday for the last stableford event of April.
A total of five players scored 38 points each, but there could only be two winners with Levi Sua (11) winning A Grade on a countback from Leon Mateariki (11), while sweet-swinging lefty Robin McCrae (18) won B Grade via the same means from Theo Van Roy (18).
Bryan Clydesdale also scored 38 points and led the down the line winners, joined by Peter Reilly, Colin Crowle and Nick Gray 37, Harry Elyasie and Michael Anlanger 36, and Les Jones, Rod Walker and Ross Maclean with 34 points.
Nearest the pins went to; 2nd Hole: Peter Reilly (2.00m) and 16th Hole: Theo Van Roy (1.15m).
A great-sized field competed in last Monday’s Anzac Day event, with 38 points once again being a popular score.
Winners and runners up in both grades scored 38 points with Harry Elyasie (5) defeating Heath Barclay (7) in A Grade and John Roberts (20) getting the better of runner up Dave Lummis (29) in B Grade.
Down the lines went to Anthony Kemsley 37, Roger Parker 36, Jimmy Pari, Angie Peluso and Keith Barrot 35, Brian Bateup and Alan Borch 34, and Phillip Mott, Yvonne Smith, Matt Yusoff, Peter Reilly, Philip Kendall (Ranfurlie) and Stewart MacDonald with 33.
Nearest the pins went to; 2nd Hole: Heath Barclay (54cm) and 16th Hole: Harry Elyasie (3.18m).
Some great scores were shot in Wednesday’s Par event with Angie Peluso (39) taking the field to the cleaners in B Grade, winning by an incredible seven shots after shooting a terrific score of +10.
Graeme Steel (29) was runner up in B Grade with +3, while John Roberts (20) shot +5 to win A Grade by a solitary shot from Rex Ryan (20) on +4.
Down the lines went to Tim Pratt, Geoff Percival and William Carmichael +3, Ron Zomer +2, Tony Sheahan, Harry Bolotin, John Kingman, Graham Brennan and Rod Walker +1, and Peter Mackie, Heath Barclay, John Wilson, Steven Smith and Tom McDermott who all finished square with the card.
The Supercomp Back 9 winner was Angie Peluso (39) with +6, while nearest the pins went 2nd Hole: John Kingman (2.30m) and 16th Hole: Tony Sheahan (1.50m).
Liz Garvey (39) was best of the ladies that took to the course for Thursday’s stableford competition, scoring 38 points to win by two points from Yvonne Smith (19) on 36.
Down the lines went to Norma Crebbin, Leanne Barker and Kay Jones with 34 points while nearest the pins, second shots, went to 2nd Hole: Leah Barker/Yvonne Smith (0.30m) and 16th Hole: Suzanne Van Strien (2.12m).
And a great week of golf concluded at Deep Creek on Sunday when Ray Hewitt (22) scored 39 points to take out the stableford competition.
Down the lines went to Harry Elyasie with 35 points and Matt Yusoff with 33.
It’s a big day for the ladies this Thursday, with May Medal Day coinciding with round four of the Silver Spoon, while the field will play stroke on Saturday also for the May Monthly Medal.
