On Saturday 21 May, Australia will vote for the nations new political leaders. Here’s who local residents said they were voting for at Pakenham Central Marketplace:
Elizabeth McGregor of Pakenham
I’m voting for Labor, because I’ve voted for them my whole life. My husband and I always voted Labor and he’s gone now but I’ll still vote Labor.
John Stitt of Pakenham
I’m voting for Liberal, I’ve always voted Liberal. I don’t look at the person whose the leader, I look at the party and they always seem to do a good job. I’ve only voted Labor once and I regretted it.
Doreen Stitt of Pakenham
I usually vote Liberal but I don’t know who I’m voting for yet. I probably will vote Liberal because I feel like Labor wastes money.
Keith Eigendorp of Pakenham
I feel very sorry for Scott Morrison because he came into a very difficult time especially with the bush fires and Covid-19. Look, all politicians are the same. At the moment I would say Scott Morrison but that could change if I hear of anybody who is a lot better.
Ursula Shores of Pakenham
I’m a Liberal person. I have been my whole life because we had a business and they’re the only one’s who support business, I don’t think Labor ever did. These people are now paying my pension, I’ve got to look after them.
Diane Van Dalen of Pakenham
I don’t want to vote for either of them because I’ve watched Scott Morrison come up through the ranks and I think he’s quite silly. Anthony Albanese could be alright but he seems to have a temper. I don’t like any of them.
Jean and Joe Eckersley of Gembrook
We favour Scott Morrison but we’re still deciding. We think he’s done a good job under the circumstances.
Frank and Lea Sacco of Pakenham
We’re voting Liberal, we always have. We work in our own business and Labor is too unionised.
