Dance for flood relief

The Lightning Hill Estate winery in Officer is hosting an event to help raise funds for Queensland and NSW flood victims.

Money will be raised through raffles, a silent auction and a Bunnings style barbecue, as well as 50 per cent of tickets profits donated directly to charity GIVIT and Red Cross Flood Appeal.

Lightning Hill Estate owner Janine Fitzsimmons said she was doing her bit to help those impacted by the floods.

“It’s easy for us to have an event and if we can fundraise, why wouldn’t we?“ Janine said.

“Can you imagine you’ve been through the 2011 floods, you can’t get insurance and you can’t sell your house?

“Your home is your biggest investment and for a natural disaster to deem it worth nothing – I cant even begin to imagine.“

Items up for grabs at the event include a iLve wine fridge, deluxe car detailing and 12 month representation by Spunkz Talent Agency.

Finger food will be provided throughout the night as well as a free beer or wine on the house.

Melbourne DJ Sheldon Connolly will donate his time to provide the music as everyone dances the night away.

The event will be held on Saturday 9 April from 5pm to 11pm at 130 Whiteside Road, Officer.

Lightning Hill Estate opened in December and is available for pre-booked functions or ticketed events only.

Going forward, the family-run business plans to host an event every six weeks.

“There’s something about the property, people come in and they just breathe out and relax,“ Janine said.

“We’re trying to create a place for people to go in the area because there’s not a lot of options, and to give young and old people to have an opportunity or casual enjoyment.“
