Taking a stand for refugees

Bishop Philip Huggins, previously of Pakenham, has made news after participating in a protest against the inhumane treatment of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia.

Bishop Huggins spent eight minutes locked in a cage outside the Park Hotel in Carlton where dozens of detainees have been held for up to eight years.

The stunt is the latest in The Freedom Cage campaign, and comes as church leaders launched the #setthefree campaign in January following tennis player Novak Djokovic’s deportation.
