The Pakenham Show committee has re-elected Geoff Young as president for the 11th year.
In 2022, the show will celebrated 111 years of putting on the annual agricultural event, the year to be held Saturday 19 March at the PB Ronald Reserve, Pakenham with the community’s sponsorship.
This year, the theme is the Roaring 20s.
The committee is striving to bring together a strong young and old volunteers with a focus on igniting their community for everyone to enjoy show day.
“The Parklea Pakenham Show embraces agricultural, horticultural and multicultural communities under one umbrella offering a free, family fun orientated day,“ Mr Young said.
“Extending well beyond one community, we seek to involve, unite and welcome all local and surrounding communities; of all ages, races, religions and cultures.
“We especially advocate towards a positive mental health outlook; bringing a sense of connection for the individual, the local businesses/farmers and the overall local and surrounding communities.”
Mr Young said the committee sought to showcase and promote not only the fantastic agriculture and horticulture communities, but also local and multicultural aspiring musicians and talented performers, all of whom have been negatively affected by the Covid crisis.
“With many people feeling disconnected, alone and lonely, we seek to build resilience within the community and look to entertain, engage and ignite the Pakenham and surrounding communities, by fostering and focusing on community connection with a free one-day family fun event,” he said.
At the meeting which saw his re-election, Mr Young also acknowledged other long serving members of the committee.
“Tonight we also acknowledge our long standing and life members Roger Leamon, Val and Graeme Vale with embroided commemorative woollen blankets in the presence of other special life members and loyal committee people from years gone by,” Mr Young siad.
“Now my mentors, I can’t thank you enough over such a difficult time, moving the show from the Pakenham Racecourse to the new venue the PB Ronald Reserve, Pakenham; but back where it originally started.
“I invite any individual, group or business to jump on board and celebrate with us.”
