Comeback for hard waste

RUBBISH dumping in Cardinia is set to diminish with the reintroduction of shire-wide bi-annual hard and green waste collections.
The Cardinia Shire Council recently accepted a tender from WM Waste Services to collect items such as old furniture, whitegoods, computers, timber, carpet, lawn mowers and hot water systems from local households.
The bi-annual hard and bundled green waste kerbside service will replace the current tip voucher system.
Central Ward councillor Brett Owen hoped residents would make the most of the reintroduction of hard and green waste collections.
“A lot of residents complained when council discontinued this service,” he said.
“I hope residents see this as a way of getting rid of rubbish and unwanted goods.”
The council has also taken up the option to recycle mattresses to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
Dreamsafe, a sub-contractor of WM Waste Services, cleans, sanitises and recovers useable mattresses before donating them to charities.
