Casey ride a bounding success

CASEY horse riders took part in one of the most successful Riding of the Bounds events in its 19-year history on Sunday.
Casey mayor Colin Butler was full of praise for the event, which also attracted riders from neighbouring Cardinia Shire.
“It was a fantastic turnout with 230 riders participating – 80 more than last year – and lots of families and groups enjoying this unique ride,” he said.
“This annual event has been proudly held for over 550 years in Casey’s Sister City Berwick-Upon-Tweed in England, and locally we have been running our Riding of the Bounds since 1988.”
Cr Butler said the Australian version was different as it was not a competition ride and was open to riders from all backgrounds.
“Luckily the weather was ideal for riding, and the course incorporated some stunning local properties which most riders would normally not have had the opportunity to enjoy,” he said.
Following the event a barbecue lunch was held for all participants and the following prizes were awarded to winners:
Awards were Champion Rider – Hotspur Trophy, Rhiannan Leake, Mayor’s Choice – King Robert Bruce Trophy, joint winners Helen McRae and Ronald Cocks, Best Presented Group – Kay Irving Trophy, Berwick Pony Club, Best Horse Drawn Vehicle – Grace Darling Trophy, Wayne Knelange – Hurford, Most Australian Rider – Ned Kelly Trophy, Wayne Hewitt, and Best Western Turnout – Sir William Wallace Trophy, Milica Kusic.
