Work will begin on updating the Beaconsfield Officer Scout Group hall in the coming weeks.
Located at the Officer Recreation Reserve, the hall works will include doubling the floor size and a new accessible ramp at the front.
Assistant group leader Leanne Fraser has been campaigning for funding for the upgrade for many years.
“It’ll be so exciting to see it come to fruition after such a long time,” she said.
“By renovating, expanding and developing the hall, it will become a vibrant new purpose built facility for the benefit of the wider community.”
The Beaconsfield Officer Scout Group was created after the hall-less Beaconsfield Scout Group moved Officer Scout Hall which was sitting unused at the time.
“It’s a 1950s building which is beautiful but not conducive to scouting, it’s quite old and needs some help,” Leanne said.
Suffering a few break in over the years, the hall upgrade will see purpose built secure storage as well as accessible bathroom upgrades and an electrical upgrade.
Leanne secured funding from the Federal Government with support from La Trobe MP Jason Wood and Scouts Victoria.
It’s due for completing after the summer holidays in time for the new 2022 season.
