POLICE are investigating an alleged horrifying assault of a youth at Pakenham train station last week, after footage of the incident went viral on social media.
Uploaded on Monday 7 December, the six-second video depicts a man being rapidly punched twice to the face before he slouches and appears to lose consciousness due to the impact.
A further photo reveals his face and shirt to be covered in blood in the aftermath of the attack, and the perpetrator walking away inspecting their knuckles. Several onlookers can be heard in the background.
A police spokesperson said the victim had attended the Pakenham Police station and given a statement on Tuesday 8 December, and that the incident was still being investigated. She added that the identity of the alleged offender was known to police.
The video has elicited rage from Facebook users, many of whom have called for the offender to be harshly dealt with. It was posted by ‘Most Wanted Lads’, a page inviting users to send videos or pictures which will then be posted anonymously.
It is believed the incident occurred on the afternoon of Friday 4 December.
Anyone with information on the assault should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
