New homes for council furniture

By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM

PRE-LOVED furniture from Cardinia Shire Council’s former offices have found new homes with more than 40 local community groups.
After sitting dormant at the Henty Way premises for a year, council opened the doors for community group representatives to inspect and take away pieces of furniture last Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 November.
Mayor Jodie Owen said over 1000 items of furniture were claimed by community groups including sporting clubs, kindergartens, schools, fire brigades and churches.
“Council thought long and hard about how the excess furniture could be put to good use in our local community, and what better way than to donate it to the many hardworking community groups operating within our shire and servicing our residents,” she said.
“Some of the larger items, like the fridges and kitchen equipment, were donated to some local social housing providers before the inspection.”
The remaining items will be auctioned off by the Rotary Club of Pakenham from 9am this Saturday 28 November.
Items available for purchase this weekend will include desks, office chairs, tables, kitchen equipment and filing cabinets.
Mayor Owen encouraged residents to support the sale, with all proceeds being used by the Rotary Club to support local groups.
“Everything must go! It has to be removed before Monash Health move into the building and begin renovations to create Pakenham Health Hub,” she said.
“Anyone is welcome to come and attend the auction and all proceeds will be used by the Rotary Club to support local community groups.”
