Car ploughs into school bus

By ANEEKA SIMONIS

A CAR travelling at close to double the speed limit in a school zone recently smashed into the back of an empty Pakenham-bound school bus.
Leading Senior Constables Anthony Templar from Cardinia Highway Patrol said the 43-year-old male driver from Trafalgar was conveyed to The Alfred hospital after the Friday 13 November crash, which left him with serious leg and shoulder injuries.
Drugs and alcohol are being investigated as a factor in the crash which occurred just after 8.30am outbound on the Princes Highway near the St Patrick’s Primary School.
Leading Sen Const Templar estimated the man was driving between 100km/h and 110km/h when his car collided into the back of the school bus travelling in a 60km/h reduced speed zone.
No students were on board at the time but the black Hyundai Getz was deemed a write-off.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Cardinia Highway Patrol on 5945 2500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
