HALLAM’S Subway owners will have to repair items smashed with a sledgehammer, but escaped having to replace any stolen items.
Police said a man used a sledgehammer to smash a hole in the front glass door of the Hallam Road store at 5.45am on Sunday.
He then climbed through the safety glass and located a safe inside the store.
Police said the offender tried to open the safe by smashing it with the sledgehammer but to no avail.
The man then left but was captured on video footage.
He is described as of slim build, wearing dark pants, a dark jacket and a beanie.
A white station wagon was also seen nearby at the time of the burglary.
