Pakenham icon to close

By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM

AFTER 61 years in business, Pakenham icon Hardy’s Mitre 10 will close its doors in the coming months.
Staff were advised on Tuesday 11 August that the Bald Hill Road business will be closing and managing directors, Steven and Darrell Hardy, will be retiring.
Other businesses owned by the family will remain open, including The Good Guys.
Darrell Hardy said the 80 staff employed at the Mitre 10 were currently in talks about their future.
“We’re discussing redundancy and other options – it’s early days but we need to make sure everyone’s accommodated,” he said.
Customers have also been advised and stock will be cleared before the closure.
A press release stated that further details of the closure would be released in the future.
