THE Country Fire Authority (CFA) is investigating the cause of a Narre Warren house blaze in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The owner of the home rang the CFA after a fire broke out about 12.10am in one of the rooms.
However the house, on the corner of Richardson Street and the Princes Highway, was fully engulfed by flames when the CFA arrived.
Lieutenant Travis Carter of the Narre Warren brigade said crews couldn’t carry out an internal attack due to extremely strong winds which were pushing the fire through the house. It took about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control and CFA crews were on the scene for four hours.
“Crews were also hampered by the fact that the nearest two fire ground ball hydrants were covered with mud and grass and they had to be dug up to get a water supply,” Mr Carter said.
A total of 25 CFA members helped fight the fire, including members from the Narre Warren, Hallam, Berwick and Hampton Park brigades, as well as breathing apparatus from the Frankston brigade.
Police and ambulance were also called to the scene.
The repair bill is estimated to be more than $150,000.
