POLICE are seeking information regarding an attempted burglary in Hampton Park last Friday.
A man was working in the Hampton Park newsagent and adjoining post office at 4.45am when he heard a loud car outside in the Hampton Park Shopping Centre carpark.
Detective Senior Constable Ollie Gaspari said the man, who runs the stores, looked outside but could not see anything.
He then went to the back door, made of frosted glass, and saw the outline of a man.
The shop owner shouted at him to “get out of here” then the man fled.
Det Sen Const Gaspari said security footage captured two men on film at the door, one carrying a crow bar, and driving away in two trucks.
One truck was a two- or three-tonne white tray truck.
The other was identified as a smaller yellow Toyota utility truck stolen from Campbell Drive in Hampton Park.
It was later located in Ivan Crescent, Hampton Park.
The men also left industrial steel cable at the scene, which police are trying to identify.
Det Sen Const Gaspari urged anyone who may know where the cable came from to contact police.
One man was wearing a balaclava and gloves, the other a whitish scarf around his face. Both wore dark clothes and baseball caps.
Anyone with information or who may have seen two trucks at the back of the shopping centre should contact Det Sen Const Gaspari at Cranbourne CIU on 5991 0661 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
