THE Yakerboo festival has become a highlight and a tradition for the kids at Pakenham Kindergarten in Main Street, and this year was no different.
After the parade was called off earlier this month due to poor weather, staff organised a ‘mini Yakerboo’, allowing children the opportunity to parade in the costumes they had worked so hard on.
Mini Yakkerboo was held on Thursday and Friday of last week, allowing both groups at the kinder a chance to participate.
The Yakkerboo atmosphere was recreated, with face- painting, balloon animals, a cake stall, a circus tent and acrobatics all happening on the day.
Children threw lollies to their parents as they paraded throughout the grounds.
Teacher Jamie Wursthorn said it was pleasing that the children got the opportunity to parade after all the preparation for Yakkerboo.
“It was exhausting but a really fabulous day,” she said.
“The kids absolutely loved it, they were so excited about wearing their costumes in the parade.
“We received amazing support from a number of parents who stepped in to help make the event a success,” she said.
The children also sang happy birthday to Mr Yakkerboo.
Ms Wursthorn said the kinder would be involved again next year.
“It’s always a highlight. We’re definitely intending to participate next year, and hoping for better weather,” Ms Wursthorn said.
The day was made possible through the support of a group of parents who came together at the last minute to help with the event. Teachers Anne-Marie Helmore, Jamie Wursthorn, Michelle Black, Jenny Bayliss, Liz Mertens and Lindsey Cunningham also devoted much of their energy towards making the day such a success.
