KOOWEERUP racer Travis Lindorff is still pinching himself after living out every motor-racer’s dream at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst recently.
Lindorff, 41, who runs Casey Accident Repairs in Pakenham, made it a clean sweep, winning all three races in the Ashley Cooper Memorial Saloon Car Challenge, part of the 2015 Bathurst Motor Festival.
His success at Bathurst followed his dominant first round victory in the Australian Super Six Touring Car Series at Sandown on 28-29 March, making it five wins from six race starts this season.
But it is his glorious weekend at Bathurst -the equivalent of a cricketer making a hundred at Lord’s- that will stick with him forever.
“I’ll never be able to win three races on the same weekend at Bathurst ever again. Not many people have done it and I’m still coming back down to earth now,” Lindorff said.
Lindorff’s triumph is a significant one, with 53 Saloon cars from all over Australia making their way to Bathurst for the event. He won two races on Saturday in wet conditions, before rounding out his dream weekend with a stunning win in race three on Sunday. “I was pinching myself after the first race on Saturday, I just couldn’t believe I’d won a race at Bathurst, against 53 other guys from around Australia, I thought this is pretty good, but to win two in a row was unbelievable,” he said.
Lindorff has been in red-hot form on the track in recent years, winning the 2013 Victoria Saloon Car Championships in 2013 before running third in the Nationals last year after mechanical failure cruelled his championship dreams in the final round of the series.
Lindorff and his Car 51 Pakenham Tyres VT Holden Commodore have five more rounds of the Australian Super Six Touring Car Series to negotiate, at Winton, Sydney Motor Sport Park, Queensland Raceway, Phillip Island and the season finale at Wakefield Park in NSW.
