IT WAS all aboard for the many Casey employees working at a train manufacturer last week.
The workers and management at Dandenong business Bombardier Transportation were delighted with a State Government announcement awarding them a contract to build 14 new VLine carriages.
The $65 million agreement, announced by local MP Luke Donnellan last week, will result in many local employees having their work secured for the future.
“Over 50 per cent of the workers at Bombardier are from the City of Casey,” Mr Donnellan said.
Mr Donnellan said it was vital for companies such as Bombardier to retain their skilled staff in the current skill shortage climate.
“It has ensured the skills base has remained in the local area and this is vitally important.
“This will produce jobs as well as it will remove a cloud hanging over the job security of more than 70 AWU (Australian Workers Union) members at the Dandenong manufacturer,” he said.
An extra 1400 seats will become available on the VLine network when the 14 new carriages hit the tracks.
