No evidence for terror threat

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

THERE has been no evidence of a terror threat against Fountain Gate Shopping Centre despite a Somali terrorist cell naming the Westfield Group in a new video, calling for attacks on western shopping centres.
In the footage the Al-Shabaab militants call for attacks on major shopping centres in Canada, the UK and America, and the Westfield Group is mentioned.
Scentre Group – Westfield’s Australian affiliate – on Monday released a statement noting there was “no evidence of an imminent threat” to its shopping centres.
“Scentre Group’s policy is to not publicly discuss security procedures, however our heads of security continue to coordinate their activities with police and government agencies,” it said.
“As usual, significant resources continue to be devoted to security arrangements in our offices and shopping centres and they continue to operate as normal.”
Al-Shabaab, a group understood to have links with al Qaeda, was responsible for the mall attack in Kenya in 2013 that led to 62 deaths and saw more than 100 people injured.
