Qur’an quotes

I JUST can’t sit by without addressing Ms Choudhry’s comments (Islam Answers Back, News Opinion, 9 October).
I suggest that she obtain a copy of the Holy Qur’an translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali.
Obviously, l cannot comment on all the points she makes in her letter to the editor, so l have chosen one point to investigate: girls/women of the Qur’an (the bracketed numbers are the direct reference from the translated Qur’an)
1. (4:3) It allows men to marry up to four wives and also to have sex with slave girls.
2. (65:4) It allows for marriage to pre-pubescent girls.
3. (2.223) Your wives are as a tilth unto you: so approach your tilth when and how ye will.
And in a tradition Mohammad details the qualities of a good wife, including that “she obey when instructed” and “the husband is pleased to look at her”.
4. 29 January 1981. The great Sheikh of Al-Azhar (the most famous University of the Islamic World) stated that parents must follow the lessons of Muhammad and not listen to medical authorities because the latter often change their minds.
Parents must do their duty and have their daughters circumcised.
The Qur’an decrees women’s subordination to men in numerous other verses.
There is a lot of evidence to support Mr. Woolf’s letter (State Of Islam, News Opinion, 2 October).
French officials recently stated in the press “that there are places within the Muslim enclaves in Paris that the police will not enter”.
Muslim schools in Birmingham, UK, are indoctrinating their students to hate all non-Muslim believers.
l applaud Mr Woolf for speaking out, he has only said what a lot of people are
thinking.
S F Edgar,
Berwick.
