Lucky to be alive

By KATELYN PINAL AND BEN CAMERON

A Cranbourne woman is lucky to be alive after a cement mixer side swiped her car on the Monash Freeway around 1.10pm on Tuesday.
The 46-year-old, who was heading towards Warragul, had pulled over to answer her phone just past the Cardinia Road overpass when the cement mixer, that was reportedly changing lanes, clipped the side of her Nissan Patrol causing severe damage to the right hand side.
“She’s lucky to be alive,” a police spokesperson said.
“The car has suffered extensive, unrepairable damage, it’s a write-off.”
The right rear window was shattered and both tyres were flattened by the collision.
A female driver who was witness to the crash said that the driver was “pretty shaken up”.
“We were driving behind her. Apparently she pulled over to take a call,” she said.
Police interviewed the truck driver, a 53-year-old Kooweerup man, who had stopped approximately 200m past the scene.
Police say the cement mixer sustained minimal damage in the incident.
The Koowerup driver had left by the time the Patrol was towed away.
The fire brigade was also called to the scene.
