Warning to nail scam

POLICE are warning Casey residents to be wary of a scam involving door-to-door salesmen who offer to carry out maintenance work on properties.
Detective Sergeant Darren Hedge said the handymen promote services, such as roofing, that aren’t properly delivered.
He said the handymen try to sell residents these services and then bill them for additional work that is never carried out.
“You won’t get value for money and their money back schemes are useless,” Sgt Hedge said.
“People will lose money if they don’t protect themselves.”
It’s understood the scam has recently been reported in the Hallam area.
Warning signs for the scams include the salesmen not having identification, contact information or receipts.
Sgt Hedge encouraged residents to ask for identification and check if the trader is registered with the Australian Government.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
