IT WAS a cause for celebration last week when Narre Warren North resident Audrey Minchinton celebrated her 100th birthday.
The centenarian received a flood of birthday wishes when she notched up 100 years on Wednesday, 27 September.
The St Jude’s Aged Care Facility resident received congratulatory letters from the Queen, Prime Minister John Howard, Premier Steve Bracks, Governor General Major Michael Jeffery and Victorian Governor Professor David de Kretser.
Son Vivian Minchinton said his mother had also enjoyed two birthday parties.
On the Wednesday, he said nursing home staff had organised a birthday celebration complete with a cake, 100th birthday balloons, sausage rolls and champagne.
Mrs Minchinton’s family then came on Sunday to mark the occasion with the great grandmother.
Mr Minchinton said his mother had always been an extremely gracious host and a very house-proud and hospitable person.
He said his mother had always loved playing the piano, violin and gardening.
Mrs Minchinton moved to Narre Warren North when the nursing home she was living in at Glen Iris was relocated.
She grew up on a cattle station in Queensland before moving to Melbourne and settling with her dentist husband.
