Two dogs shot

By BRIDGET COOK

BREI Dunn cannot fathom how someone could do what is believed to have been done to her two dogs.
Her two young staffy dogs – Chevy and Tonka – were found dead after escaping from their Clyde North home this month.
Both are believed to have both been shot in the head with a bolt gun.
Ms Dunn said she and her partner Paul, along with their friends who originally owned Tonka before moving interstate, had been left traumatised by the whole ordeal and so sad they had lost their beloved pets.
“If this was deliberate, I just don’t understand what sick and twisted individual could do such a thing to such beautiful dogs,” Ms Dunn said.
“If it was an accident, maybe by a farmer whose property they were on, then just let us know so we can have some piece of mind.
“I urge other pet owners to keep their animals safe, as I would hate anyone else to go through this.”
The two dogs got out of Ms Dunn’s house in Thunderbolt Drive, Clyde North, on Friday 8 August after the garage door was accidently opened.
Ms Dunn said they searched all night and the next day for the two dogs, before they got the dreaded news.
“They have gotten out before, but Chevy would always lead Tonka back home.
“They were best friends, they wouldn’t have left each other’s side.”
The couple received a call from the Peninsula RSPCA on the Saturday, with news that the dogs had been handed in but were deceased.
Ms Dunn said it was initially thought they had been hit by a car.
“When I was on the way to the RSPCA Paul messaged me and said that it looked to have been deliberate,” she said.
“When I got there, the staff just gave me such a blank, sad look.
“I spotted Chevy first and I was howling – I just lost it.
“I couldn’t stop saying how sorry I was for the dogs. I’ll never forget the look on the dogs’ faces.
“Chevy looked as if her head had been blown apart but the vet had stitched her back up.
“Tonka had been shot in the ear and across the top of his head.”
Ms Dunn said she was told it looked as if they had been shot, and the injuries were not consistent with being hit by a car.
She said there was something not right about the whole situation.
“Someone handed them into the vet,” she said.
“They were apparently found on Clyde Berwick Road with a sheet over them.
“If anyone has any information, please get in contact with police. We just want answers.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
