Paky auto mania

By BEN CAMERON

PAKENHAM is set to be home to the biggest used car yard in the country by next year.
Designed as a site where customers can see up to 1000 cars in a single location, the $70m Car MegaMart Business Park development will boast 25 car lots with more than 80 associated and complementary retail businesses, services and purpose-built showrooms.
Designed as an “integrated auto industry specific sales complex”, stage one was opened to the public in January and already features 15 dealerships with the capacity to build up to 43 yards and three new car dealerships.
It would represent one of the biggest automotive precincts of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
The completion of stage two will see 1000 cars on-site and a 14-acre used car lot, the largest in the country.
Due for completion next year, Operations and Marketing Manager Peter Caldwell said the entire 38-hectare development already had approximately 10 acres already completed after the project began in August last year.
“The development will also feature 18 dedicated motorcycle, caravan and boat sales sites as well as a range of service industries such as mechanics, detailing and paint shops,” he said.
“While our immediate sales have been very strong, we also see our presence at Car MegaMart as a long-term prospect.”
The site will also be home to a mix of 41 factories, showrooms and warehouses serving the automotive, boat, caravan, bike and transport industries, with 14 factories almost completed and a further 10 to start construction soon.
