Soccer future

By JARROD POTTER

WHEN no one else was there to take on the role, Hallam Senior College teacher Emma Morgan took it upon herself to take on the reins of the Soccer Academy.
When the former head of soccer left the soccer program without a point of contact, Morgan stepped in to ensure the program would continue to advance.
“It was a bit of a slow process,” Emma Morgan said.
“I’ve been at Hallam for three-and-a-half years and I ended up going as the teacher accompanying the girls’ soccer team to a couple of their games.
“Expressed interest in helping out as I used to play at uni and very much enjoyed it and thought I’d support them.
“At the end of last year, the former head of soccer moved to become the assistant head of rugby and we weren’t sure who else would be going for it.
“One of my colleagues – Lizl (Tregidga)- she had been helping out as well, and both had been doing paper and man for the team last year, so we decided that I’d be the head and she, the assistant.”
Growing the soccer program at the school – especially the girls’ soccer – is Morgan’s key ambition as she hopes her beloved sport can become as large and well-renowned as the Hallam AFL academies that have won state titles with both boys and girls.
