PAKENHAM hosted a special group of athletes over the weekend.
The Special Olympics Victoria State Winter Games returned to the suburb for the fourth year in a row over the weekend.
Nearly 400 athletes attended the opening ceremony at Cardinia Life on Saturday morning and the 500-seat grandstand was at capacity.
Basketball, 10-pin bowling and soccer competitions ran across the weekend at Cardinia Life, Lakeside Reserve and Narre Warren Superbowl.
Cardinia councillor Brett Owen said the games highlighted the region’s spirit of inclusiveness and the great facilities in the shire.
“We are rapt to have the Special Olympics hosted in Cardinia,” he said.
“Our community loves having the games here and watching the competitors play.”
